to be or not to be…

I wrote a week or so ago about my desire and dream to open a fabric/studio shop.
I thought I would give a tiny update.

I went to a small business workshop last week and it was crazy helpful for this hopeful venture along with my current etsy shop. The good news was that I have found a wonderful business counselor to work with. The bad news is that we discovered what we (my husband and I) were worried about…finances. We had done some research and were hoping that in order to secure a loan we wouldn’t have to put up our house as collateral. But with the way the economy is right now, a bank pretty much won’t give a loan without real estate as the security. That said, we aren’t sure we are willing to take that risk.

So what now? We continue to pray that if God truly does want this venture to go forth, He will provide the means and the way. I will continue to hammer out a business plan. But my focus will shift to building up my etsy shop right now. It has been an amazing year for me with this little business and it’s time to add a lot of structure and organization to it. I’m hoping to add a local retail vendor and branch out into a few other ideas I’ve had brewing early next year.

Thanks to all my friends (new and old) who have help support this little dream just in the dreaming. I haven’t given up, I just feel like now I have a specific direction for my prayers.

lots o’ stitching going on

Things are picking up around here. School is in full swing. I’ve got 4 orders on the table right now and bunches of sewing that needs to be done for the boy for his upcoming birthday.

starling playskirt: close up of hand embroidery

I finally finished the stitch-a-long for this month. Honestly, I kept staring at this skirt to be trying to figure out how many more birds to sew and I just couldn’t do anymore. So I just finished it and said, “be done” 🙂 It is soon to be listed on etsy, so keep your eyes peeled if you think it’s something you might like.

i love you to the moon embroidery

This is the latest typography I’m working on. I love this quote and would love to figure out a more “girly” way to do it, but for now I’ll settle for this. I’m hand appliqueing pieces of this rocket boy fabric from Michael Miller that I’ve had in my stash for a while. I’m pretty pleased with how it’s turning out so far.

a little family inspiration

I also doctored up this photo of all our feet from the beach. I love it.

new business cards!!!

And last, these finally came in the mail today and I love them! Makes me feel a little more professional to actually have some business cards instead of just the little ones I’ve been trying to print at home. Next up, a little mini photo catalog to leave around town and hopefully some new clothing labels.

Winter Embroidered Bibs

Winter Bibs

I had seriously hoped to have sewn at least 6 of these while on our drive down to Florida for Thanksgiving, but my sweet  daughter continuously demanded my attention elsewhere during our lovely journey (said with much sarcasm). Sadly I only completed these 2, but hope to have a third finished this week.
Nevertheless, I do love these two.

Here is Mr. Santa Penguin

Winter Bibs (front/back)

The designs are from Homeberries and I ended up stitching them on muslin for a change and then backing them with chenille (which is insanely messy to cut and sew by the way!) Local? Find them at Jack and Jill in the near future!

Back to more sewing!!
