what I’m into {march 2014}

It’s a glorious day outside and after a full day of endless rain yesterday a very welcome sight. While the kiddos are plugged in for their afternoon tech time, I figured I would get a jump on March’s what I’m into.

March was a pretty full month for us. Our school goes year round, so we get a 2 week break in the spring. We spent half the month in school and the other half out. The schedule ramps back up for us tomorrow and I’m guessing this is going to be a tricky week as we seek to find that rhythm again.

The high light of our spring break was our little trip to Georgia. We stayed at Cloudland Canyon State Park in a Yurt! It was a super trip that we got to enjoy with some great friends of ours. Such a huge blessing for us all.

Here’s a look back at my March…

screen time:
We are trying to get caught up on all the movies that have come out on dvd lately. We watched Catching Fire finally and I really liked it. It’s been almost 2 years since I read the books so there were lots of things I forgot about. I remembered after watching it that this was the book I liked best in the trilogy. I grabbed Lincoln at the library and promptly fell asleep about 45 minutes into it. We had a family movie night and watched How to Train Your Dragon. I love this movie and we are all excited about the next one coming out soon. Last night we finally watched Gravity. At first it just was a strange movie, so many parts with no noise, and then it stressed me out and then it was over and I was like “what!?” The jury is still out on whether I liked it or not.
In the world of t.v., ultimately I’m super pumped that The Midwives is back on PBS. I love this show for so many reasons and I’m so excited it’s back on. I’m still trudging through 24 and I’ve made it into the 2nd season. Then there are the typical standbys of Parenthood, Chicago Fire and I’m waning on my like of Chicago PD.

book time:
I recently finished up Allegiant in the Divergent series and humph. I just don’t know. I closed the book and looked at my husband and declared “how depressing!!” I’m glad I read the series and after talking to some friends who saw the movie I don’t think I will any time soon. I’m still trying to read A Circle of Quiet by M. L’engle and I think I’m just going to have to buy it in order to get through it. It’s one that I need to trudge through and then read again to get what I know I can get out of it. She does have so many good points. I’m also still ready The Power of Habit and I think I’m going to have to break down and buy this one too. I’ve been ready Paul Miller’s Love book for the past month and it’s awesome. Just seriously good stuff. I’ve also got a stack of books borrowed from my mom that I’m hoping to dig into in the next month or so.

sewing time:Β

Easter is fast approaching as is warmer weather. It’s time to break out the sewing machine for the little chicka in the house. I’m going super easy on her Easter dress this year and finally stitching up this little maxi dress by Go To Patterns I’ve had my eye on for a while. She picked out this knit and for once we both agreed this is a fantastic fabric choice!
I’m also stitching up a few skorts from this Oliver + S pattern I love so much. I let her pick out the fabric for these too and well…enough said.
I’m working super slowly through these Colette pants and honestly I don’t know when I’m going to get them done. Ugg…they are so mind stretching.

I’ve pinned lots of ideas lately for reorganizing my studio space. I got booted out of the basement a year ago after it flooded and we’ve gone through a couple of different changes to make the dining room function as a shared work/family space. I got nuts on Friday and decided to rearrange and my sweet husband is in the process of making some new shelves for me.

etsy stuff:
I got a whole new logo and branding last month and I LOVE IT!!! I worked with a fellow etsy seller and she is amazing. She was super great to work with and I’m over the moon with all the stuff she did for me. You can check out my new etsy logo here and my new header/facebook banner is up on this blog.
I’ve been working hard on a slew of custom items this past month. I did a couple pairs of shoes for weddings, a couple of families, a custom coffee embroidery and I’ve got one custom order in my hoop right now.

what’s coming:
April is going to be a great month. I’ve got a birthday coming up (my last year in my 30s!), spring is just around the corner, I’m doing a spring farmer’s/craft market, I might be playing on a softball team and so much more. Funny how a little sunshine can make you feel so refreshed!

What have you been into lately?

  1. What a fun month! One of my favorite getaways was in a Yurt near the Sand Dunes. I’d definitely stay in one again. πŸ™‚ How to Train Your Dragon is one of my favorite movies – can’t wait for my toddler to be old enough to watch it. I’m off to check out your etsy shop… πŸ™‚

  2. A yurt!!! How awesome! I’ve wanted to do that. We watched Catching Fire this month too. It led me to finding the Underland Chronicles to read to my first grader (also by Suzanne Collins). You’re bookshelves are also cool–I never thought of using IKEA shelves like that.
