Baby Feet

DSCF1859

Don’t you just love little baby feet? We picked up these sandals yesterday at Target; so cute! It’s so funny to watch her toddle around anyway, but watching her try to toddle around with sandals on is even more adorable.

*note* I know, I know this has no craftiness to it, but I was too lazy to switch over to the family blog and thought…who cares! We all need to see a cute picture every now and then!

An Etsy Shop!

I have officially created an Etsy shop. If you haven’t wandered around this site before, it is filled with awesome, one of a kind items of all kinds. You can click on the link here or over on the sidebar. Etsy has been flooded with awesome talent since I discovered it, so who knows how well things will go, but it’s worth a shot.

Check back often as I hope to add more burp cloths and also a few handmade outfits.

A Little Cooking Post

I have gotten into a fairly consistent routine of planning our monthly menu and wanted to share some goodies with all my loyal readers (ha ha!).

menutemplate.pdf
Here is the sheet I use for menu planning. It works really well for me. I usually dig through pages and pages of recipes and pick out about 15 for the month. I usually try to balance ground turkey with chicken dinners and I am trying my hardest to make more fish.

recipe-cheat-sheet.pdf
We also have a few recipes that we eat every month. I finally got my act together and created this sheet to just have with my recipes; instead of having to pull out all the different recipe sheets each month or day.

In addition to monthly menu planning, we have a few set meals in our week. Friday is always pizza night and the pizza dough recipe is awesome! It always turns out perfect and makes enough for 2 pizzas. I usually freeze the other dough so that I’m only having to make the dough twice a month. Sunday morning we always have fresh biscuits. I searched and searched for an easy biscuit recipe and finally found this one about a year ago. It is super easy and quick and the biscuits are rolled, cut and ready for the oven in less than 10 minutes. Sunday night we always have breakfast for dinner. We eat up the leftover biscuits from the morning and I usually either poach or scramble eggs and sometimes we even splurge (our wallets and waists!) on bacon.

What do you all use to help plan for your month of groceries?

Do you have any special traditions throughout the week or month?

Finding My Identity in Christ

Ever since I have quit working to stay home, I have struggled greatly with what my identity is. In that time, God has bombarded me with so many different things and each message or situation He has brought into my life has really changed me and shaped me more and more. Being at home and having so much time to be alone, without other adults, I have really felt His presence and heard God’s voice more than in any other time in my life. It is as if I have finally had that chance to really be still and listen for that still quiet voice. This time has been such a blessing and also such a challenge. When the walls are closing in around you, it is hard to figure out what to focus on and easy to drown out God’s whisper with t.v. or books or even kids.

This past week and this weekend I really felt God bombarding me with so much. But what He has taught me about myself and my identity in Him has been life changing. One of the things that really spoke to me this week was this post on Remodeling This Life. It was one of many little things that happened that was so timely for what was going on in my life.¬† It has reminded me that no matter what happens in my life, no matter how I feel or what others say or feel, that doesn’t change who I am and who I desire to become in Christ. My identity¬† lies at the feet of Christ and it is in Him that I find strength, discernment, compassion, forgiveness and grace.

Burdened

Do you ever have those moments or days when you wish that Jesus could just come in person and sit with you, hold you and tell you specifically what to do? I’m having one of those today. My heart is heavy and despite how much I pray for God to take this burden, I can’t seem to let go of it.

I love music and every now and then there is a song that just really touches my heart. It is one that I can hear over and over again and never tire of it. If you have access to Itunes, I really urge you to listen to it. Here are the lyrics. It is called When the Saints by Sara Groves.

Lord I have a heavy burden of all I’ve seen and know It’s more than I can handle
But your word is burning like a fire shut up in my bones
and I cannot let it go

And when I’m weary and overwrought
with so many battles left unfought

I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars
And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them

Lord it’s all that I can’t carry and cannot leave behind
it often overwhelms me
but when I think of all who’ve gone before and lived the faithful life
their courage compells me
And when I’m weary and overwrought
with so many battles left unfought

I think of Paul and Silas in the prison yard
I hear their song of freedom rising to the stars

I see the shepherd Moses in the Pharohs court
I hear his call for freedom for the people of the Lord

And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them

I see the long quiet walk along the Underground Railroad
I see the slave awakening to the value of her soul

I see the young missionary and the angry spear
I see his family returning with no trace of fear

I see the long hard shadows of Calcutta nights
I see the sisters standing by the dying man’s side

I see the young girl huddled on the brothel floor
I see the man with a passion come and kicking down the door

I see the man of sorrows and his long troubled road
I see the world on his shoulders and my easy load

And when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
and when the Saints go marching in
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
I want to be one of them
