Custom Embroidery: Parent’s of the Bride

I recently completed one of my first commissions this year and I’m so in love with how it turned out.

The quote was a request from the customer and this is a gift from her to her parents on the eve of her wedding day.

Custom Embroidery: 50th anniversary hoop

My parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in December. My mom was expecting some sort of embroidered hoop and while the freedom to make something completely as I want is awesome it can also be overwhelming. I sketched through so many different ideas and eventually came up with this one. I’ve been tossing around the idea of doing portraits with little frames for a while and I felt like now would be a good time to practice.

I kind of have a love/hate relationship with embroidered flowers. In my little instagram world it seems like everyone is stitching up flowers and words and I’ve got this thing about not wanting to go with the flow – call me a salmon. But I have to admit that they are fun to do and can really look amazing when you are done.

For my mom’s veil I knew I wanted to try something a little dimensional. I am trying hard this year to use the supplies that I have on hand instead of running to Michael’s every five minutes. I had some organza ribbon on hand, so I folded it a little, made a gathering stitch, added some french knot flowers and voila – a veil! I love how to turned out. I tacked it down on the bottom with a little bit of machine sewing thread.

Here they are in all their 50 year younger self glory 🙂

threads used:
green and black d’aubusson wool – for the vines & frames
white and black coton a broder – for the text and his tux & french knot flowers in veil
cream londonderry linen – for her wedding dress outline
black cotton pearl size 8 – for the banner frames
standard dmc in a variety of colors

Custom Embroidery: An Extended Family

Back in October a customer approached me about stitching up over half a dozen portraits of her extended family. I spent the months leading up to the holidays stitching them up. It was such a privilege to be asked to do such an order and I had such fun creating each one.

Here’s a peek at a few of them.

custom wedding vows

Last year I was approached via email by a husband wishing to gift his wife with a custom embroidery of his wedding vows to her. There was a catch to it – they had been married in front of this amazing tapestry that hung from the ceiling behind them in Adelaide, Australia. He wanted this design to incorporate portions of the tapestry.

It was such a joy to create this embroidery for him to gift his wife with on their anniversary last year.

Then something so lovely happened – his wife approached me in December asking if I would create the same sort of embroidery for her with her vows to him for their half-annivesary. I can’t tell you what it means to have a customer come back and request another embroidery. So humbling and amazing.

We decided to keep the design pretty much the same, but had to work around the fact that her vows were a little bit longer than his. She also wanted to incorporate portions of the tapestry, but we decided to use different squares and I ended up adding this one wavy portion to the top.

I had such fun crafting these tapestry squares and working on my satin stitching skills!

And I pray an amazing half-annivesary to them both.

I’m currently not taking any custom embroidery orders while I’m having a little bit of a break. But please check back or contact me concerning future custom availability.

wedding shoes

I’ve written before how much I love stitching up shoes, but I just have to say again “I love stitching up shoes!” I never would have thought that this would be the one thing that I enjoyed the most, but it really is. I don’t know what it is – but while I love doing larger, custom embroideries, there’s something about these little shoes that make me so happy.

Here’s a few of my favorites from the last couple of weeks.

For a wedding at the “happiest place on Earth” coming up:

Happily ever after wedding shoes

Part of the reason I love stitching up shoes are the stories I get to hear. This bride wanted a sunshine on her shoes as a remembrance of their first date and their engagement…both watching a sunset. Love it!

Custom embroidered TOMS - wedding shoes

And I love it when customers take a risk and ask if something different can be done. This bride had a pair of lacey Keds that she wanted stitched and asked if that would work. I’m so glad I said “yes” because I think they turned out fantastic!
