Happy *early* 4th of July

We were watching PBS the other night (alas no more cable in this house) and it was American Master’s story of Garrison Keilor. My husband and I just sat there and realized truly, whether you like him or not, he is an AMAZING storyteller. He has a way with words that just blows this beautiful picture up right in front of your eyes.

He made a comment about our country though that just really struck me…he said that as he has traveled around he has realized what an amazing country this is and that he has realized that this country was not built by “angry people”. I just thought that was so poignant and so true. We may not all agree with the way our country is being run or the direction it is going in, but it won’t be strong if we are all just moving around in anger.  May we all appreciate the freedom we have and may we all love each other and this country better and deeper this coming year.

Happy 4th of July!

  1. Garrison Keilor…

    Volvo deisel station wagon,
    deep sky blue,
    radio on,
ready to get home from the grocery store,
    Saturday nights,
    me and my little brother,
    you could find us there.

My mom and dad loved listening to him. His voice is a big part of my growing up days. Adam and
I would whine when we heard his voice tune in as they found the station…little did I know that would become a fond memory of my childhood days.

Hope Eli and Casey have some memories made like that as the “whining” is in full force these days!

    Happy 4th to you!

  2. PBS has become one of our favorites since we dropped Direct TV a few years ago. We honestly love it! We also have listened to Garrison Keilor a lot and love the gift of story telling that he has! Thanks for sharing some of his words with us! I do hope that we do not forget where we came from and that we continue the art of story telling within our own families! So much to share and remember and tell! Stories that will impact generations to come! Interesting! Hope that you guys are having a sweet day together!
    Happy 4th!
